Using the site

The games here are free to play, for as long as you like, with no account and no payment. You do not need permission to link to any page, to bookmark one, or to tell somebody about one. Using the site means these terms apply to you; if you do not accept them, do not use the site.

What you may not do

• Copy the games, the artwork or the text and publish them somewhere else, in whole or in part, including inside an app, an iframe or another games portal.
• Strip out a game's code and ship it as your own, or sell access to any of it.
• Attack the site, try to overload it, scrape it at a rate that costs other players their page load, or work round anything here that controls access.
• Use the site to break the law, or to do something to somebody else that they have not agreed to.

Quoting a sentence with a link back, or linking a guide in a forum answer, is fine and always will be. The line is between pointing at the site and republishing it.

What we own, and what we do not

We wrote the games on this site and the words around them, and those are ours. Where a game is a version of a public-domain game — solitaire, chess, draughts and the like — the rules belong to nobody and our implementation belongs to us.

Some artwork is other people's, used under its own licence and credited by name on the credits page. Those licences travel with the artwork: they are the artist's terms, not ours.

We do not claim rights in any trademark belonging to someone else, and we do not publish games under names we do not have the right to use.

What we do not promise

The site is provided as it is. We try to keep it working and correct, but we do not promise that it will always be available, that every rule is implemented exactly as you learned it, or that a game will behave the same on every device and browser. We may change, move or withdraw any game or page.

Your records, best times and saved games live in your own browser's storage and nowhere else, so anything that clears your browser data clears them. Nothing here is a backup and we cannot recover it for you — that is a consequence of there being no account, which is the trade this site makes.

Liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from using this site — including lost scores, lost saved games, lost time, or a device or browser problem that happens while you are here. Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited, and nothing in them takes away a right you have as a consumer under the law that applies to you.

Copyright, licences and takedown

If you believe something here uses your work without the right to, email hello@gamesarefree.com with "Copyright notice" in the subject, and include: the page it is on, what the work is and where you published it, who you are and how to reach you, and a statement that you believe the use is not authorised. We will take it down or credit it properly, and we will reply to the address you write from. The same address takes a correction to any rule, fact or credit on the site.

Where a dispute would be heard

This depends on where the site's operator is established, and this page will name it rather than guess at it: the operating entity and its country are being added, and until they appear here nothing on this page limits any right you have under the law that applies to you. Until then, the first step for anything at all is an email, which has settled everything so far.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change materially the change will be described here and the date at the top will be updated. Continuing to use the site after that means the changed terms apply. What the site stores about you, which is almost nothing, is on the privacy page.
