Word games reward a large vocabulary and a willingness to spend a guess on information rather than on the answer. They are also the easiest games to play in short bursts, because the whole state of the puzzle is on the screen — you can put one down mid-word and pick it up an hour later.
All three word games take an on-screen keyboard as well as a real one, and none of them needs a mouse.
Which one should you play?
Daily Word is six guesses at a five-letter word, one word a day, the same word for everybody. Every letter comes back marked by colour and by shape — a filled square, a ring, an empty square — so the board still reads if you cannot tell the colours apart, and hard mode makes you reuse every letter you have confirmed.
Hangman is a word a letter at a time, with three difficulties that differ in what you are given as well as in the words: Easy allows eight wrong guesses and shows the category from the start, Medium allows six and sells you the category for a guess, Hard allows five and tells you nothing.
Word Search is the one to play when you want to look rather than think. Drag along a word to take it; the highlight snaps to the nearest straight line, so you do not have to trace it exactly. The easy grid is ten by ten with words in four directions, and the hard one is fifteen by fifteen with sixteen words in all eight, backwards included.
